Housing prices are crashing. Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and Washington Mutual, have been acquired for pennies on the dollars. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are under Federal Government conservatorship. US Commercial banks have tightened lending standards, and a credit crunch threatens global financial markets. All of this stokes fears of an economic slowdown that many believe could result in a deep recession for the US and the rest of the world. The US Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Board developed a plan for a 0 billion bailout of Wall Street, and this bailout will be discussed by a panel of experts on the CSULB campus. The panel will discuss what caused the crisis, what the bailout means, what the implications of the bailout are, and how Main Street, not just Wall Street, is affected.

Michigan football fans may have been watching the games and plays or keeping up with the news, but for those that haven't, here are some highlights:
Detroit Lions
There have been two games the past two weeks: one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the 19th followed by the Miami Dolphins on the 26th.
The Lions started off the first quarter with the Buccaneers strong with a touchdown that was not answered until the second quarter when the Buccaneers scored two. Ending the second quarter with a field goal pushed the Lions closer to their opponents, but left them trailing 10 to 14 at halftime. During the third quarter the Lions drove 58 yards in 4:44 and brought the score to 17 to 14.
After three field goals shared between both teams in the fourth quarter, the score was 20-20 at the close of the game which pushed the teams into Overtime. With a 34 yard field goal, Rayner brought the team to victory 23 to 20.The next game was a close one that ended well for the Lions. Each team had only field goals in the first quarter with one touchdown by the Lions during the second quarter and two for the Dolphins. At halftime the Dolphins were leading 17 to 10. The third quarter saw a touchdown for each team, but going into the fourth quarter the Lions were down by 17 points. In a final stretch in the later-part of the fourth quarter, the Lions scored two touchdowns and a field goal in 2:26 winning their third game in a row 34-27.
For the Buccaneer game, Drew Stanton started at quarterback while Shaun Hill was brought in as quarterback for the game against the Dolphins.

Michigan State University Spartans
The Spartans should be proud as they have won 11 games out of 12, losing only to Iowa on Oct. 30. This loss was followed by three wins: Minnesota 31-8, Purdue 35-21 and the last Michigan football game against Penn State winning 28-22.
In the final game, Michigan State Spartans completed a touchdown every quarter with their new sophomore kicker Dan Conroy who hit the mark on every field goal attempt. � This victory resulted in a spot on the All-Big Ten first team selected by both the coaches and the media. Now the Spartans will be playing the Capital One Bowl against Alabama on the first of the new year.
The one struggle for this Michigan football team will be the loss of their junior wide receiver B.J. Cunningham. He is out for the rest of the season due to a broken foot. Cunningham had an amazing season according to Coach Mark Dantonio and the receiver's competitive nature will be missed on the field on the 1st.
